A Message from CEO Angela Reynolds on the Budget Reconciliation Bill

As the CEO of YWCA Greater Pittsburgh, I am greatly disheartened that the budget reconciliation bill passed and subsequently signed into law. The provisions in the bill run contrary to who we are as a YWCA association, what we do, and what we work to achieve. I am deeply disappointed for the millions of people who will lose healthcare coverage and face food insecurity. The women, children, seniors, and families we support lost a critical lifeline on July 4th. The shifts to Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and threats to other rights, will have an immediate negative impact on children and families, and a longer-term negative impact on financial security and economic advancement. At YWCA GP we see the devastating impacts of struggling to put food on the table, foregoing healthcare, challenges with accessing care for an aging parent, and more, firsthand.

YWCA Greater Pittsburgh will continue to stand in the gap and fight for policies that honor basic human dignity. We have been working to help community members access opportunity for over 150 years, and we remain steadfast in this commitment. Last year, we completed the release of a series of issue papers that provide blueprints for success in three areas that advance economic stability: affordable, quality child care; affordable, stable, and quality housing, and an approach to closing the gender pay gap. You can all of the issue papers here.
