How Dr. Dorothy Height Made History

Dr. Dorothy Height would be 113 this month, and we’re marking her birthday by sharing an overview of her historic life and career. Dr. Height worked tirelessly to achieve her vision of a more just world, including working to desegregate YWCAs across the country (starting in Pittsburgh, where at age 12 she asked to speak with a YWCA executive director after being rejected from a swimming pool due to racial discrimination). She helped organize the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., served as president of the National Council of Negro Women, and directly inspired the “One Imperative.” Read more about Dr. Height below.
