2025 YWCA Racial Justice Challenge Recap

If you missed this year’s YWCA Racial Justice Challenge, we’ve collected some highlights from across our 4 weeks of content for you to browse! This year’s weekly themes were The Age of Misinformation/Disinformation, Interpersonal Racism, The American Dream, and Racialization of Crime. Each week featured articles, videos, and podcast episodes centered on the theme for participants to review and chat about on the YWCA app. Check out some featured pieces below.

  • Pittsburgh Area Teachers Take on Misinformation: This news article describes efforts by Pittsburgh area schools to address digital misinformation and media bias by teaching critical media literacy to high school students.

  • “The Most Livable City for Who?”: “Among U.S. cities, Pittsburgh ranks poorly in many areas involving racial equity. In this episode of VOICES, a diverse group of community leaders and activists share their thoughts on how to improve our region’s lack of progress and the need for more than just a few to get involved in finding solutions.”

  • “The American Dream While Black”: “Homeownership is supposed to be the gateway to the American dream. This article looks at the racialized history of homeownership and how Black Americans face continued discrimination, demonstrating how the American dream is not equally available to all.”

  • Test Your Implicit Bias: The Implicit Association Test (IAT) measures attitudes and beliefs that people may be unwilling or unable to report. The IAT may be especially interesting if it shows that you have an implicit attitude you did not know about. Take 10 minutes and test your own implicit bias on a variety of race-based categories.
