Fun with STEM at YWCA GP Summer Camp

One example of how we make positive change in our community is through our Early Learning, Child Development, and Education Programs. This year's Summer Camp, which saw a 35% increase in enrollment, successfully introduced STEM concepts to campers ages 3 to 8.

Activities included learning about biology and nutrition through planting and harvesting vegetables, creating a piano out of bananas using electrical currents, and using coding skills to make robots dance.

Campers also enjoyed educational visits from the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Giant Eagle Mobile Market, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, and the Kamin Science Center’s Science on the Road inflatable planetarium, among other local partners. Field trips included going to The Frick Pittsburgh Car and Carriage Museum to learn about transportation history.

After Summer Camp came to a close, partner families stopped by our Homewood Education Center to see photos from throughout the summer, try educational activities, and chat with staff members.
