During YWCA Greater Pittsburgh Summer Camp, children participate in academic remediation, individualized one-on-one and small group learning, and enriching activities designed to increase social and emotional well-being. Students enjoy exciting activities such as learning to code with Coding Critters, nature walks, and visits to the spray park. Field trips to locations such as the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the Museum of Illusions are also included, supported by Tickets for Kids. Food is provided throughout the day.

Welcome to 2026 YWCA Summer Camp. This year’s camp will start by sorting our campers into four “Houses” represented by color, Red, Yellow, Green or White. The children will name their groups and decorate tee shirts. Instructors will provide several getting to know you activities to promote teamwork, relationships and pride in their houses while they get to know their teachers and classmates. Camp runs this week only until June 18. Center closed on June 19 in observance of Juneteenth.

This week camp will focus on the Great Outdoors! Campers will work in “House” groups to construct their own tents, and “dramatic play” campfires from found objects, and art supplies. Our first field trip will be taken on Wednesday, June 24 to Beechwood Farms to Hike and complete a nature scavenger hunt. The week will end with water play and sing along with camp songs.

Week three will be based on Community and Unity in our neighborhoods, houses and with each other. Campers will be working together to create murals, plan and lay out their own cities in a 3-D model. Children will build Kindness chains, have a visit from the local Librarian for Storytime and create, “fireworks in a jar”. Camp runs from Monday, 6/29/26 until 7/2/26. Friday 7/3/26 the facility will be closed in observance of Independence Day.

Week four campers will learn about, All Creatures Great and Small! Children will examine animal footprints, and make bird feeders, our second field trip will take place on 7/8/26 to the Natural History Museum exploring animal and dinosaur exhibits. Our local Librarian will visit for Storytime ending our week with water play and outdoor fun!

Campers will focus on Planes, Trains and Automobiles in Week 5. Coding will be introduced with the use of Indy Cars, and the House groups will work together on creating their own vehicle in the maker space with boxes, found objects and craft supplies. Activities will be focused on transportation, with sink or float activities, boat races in the water table, designing and creating their own cars. A fun ending to this exciting week will be a “drive-in” movie activity.

During Week 6 Campers will Step into Wonderland with activities based on Fairy Tales. They will Build Houses with the Three Pigs and create a zip line with Rapunzel. On 7/22/26 Campers will take a field trip to the Water Spray Park to enjoy some fun in the sun. The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust will be in to start a creative artist residency with our teachers and campers. The week will end with water play at the center and parachute games!

Campers will be learning about Space during week 7. Several activities including dioramas and flip books of the solar system will be implemented along with children creating a Space Creature from another planet! The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust will be back in to continue their artist residency, the YW campers will view a demonstration of soda geysers and have end of the week water play fun!

Week 8 will take campers to a Canvas of Dreams! Children will become the artist of their dreams while they paint their very own masterpiece on a painter’s canvas! We will make suncatchers and continue the Artist residency with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. On 8/5/26 Campers will field trip to the Museum of Illusions. The Librarian will be in for some “Dreamy” Storytime and Campers will end the week with bubbles and water play.

Week 9 will be the final week of YW Camp fun. Children will fashion their own Banana Pianos and Bongos and make their own music. It will be the last week with the cultural trust and the visiting artist. The last field trip will be to Spray Park on 8/12/26. We will do some final coding with the coding critters and finish out the week with House celebrations and a Summer Showcase.
