YWCA GP in Action - March 2026

Dive deeper into highlights across the organization over the last month. From PATHmakers campus tours to the Pittsburgh Racial Justice Summit, we’ve been busy— take a look at all we’ve been up to!

Family Fun Night

February’s Family Fun Night was filled with and activities, entertainment, and as always— food. Students and their families have this time to socialize and enjoy the Homewood Early Learning Center community. Thank you to volunteers from BNY for their time and support.

Lessons on Black Entrepreneurs

For Black History Month, students in our Propel Braddock Hills Early Learning classroom engaged in hands-on educational activities, including crafts that helped students learn about Philip B. Downing, inventor of the modern mailbox, and Garrett Morgan, inventor of the three-way traffic signal. We’re proud to offer culturally relevant Early Learning education that helps students of all backgrounds learn about history and envision exciting futures.

Career Pathways Visits

Last month, high school PATHmakers visited Point Park University and Duquesne University. At Point Park, students were introduced to a variety of potential majors and met directly with faculty during an open house. At Duquesne, they toured campus with a specific focus on exploring nursing. After learning to use stethoscopes and assistive technology, PATHmakers had the opportunity to attend a Q&A where they connected with Duquesne staff and students.

Eggs-ellent Engineering

Middle school PATHmakers were recently challenged as part of their engineering design curriculum to construct a vehicle out of household materials that would keep an egg from cracking when sent down a ramp. This activity taught students about innovation, physics, and problem-solving—every student who constructed a car was able to keep their egg crack-free!

Racial Justice Summit

YWCA Greater Pittsburgh was pleased to be a co-sponsor of the sold-out 28th Annual Pittsburgh Racial Justice Summit on Saturday, February 21, which featured variety of speakers and workshops, a Justice Jam open mic, an intergenerational panel discussion, and tabling. We loved building community and learning about ways to act on behalf of racial justice!
