Celebrating Juneteenth and Honoring Pittsburgh’s Historic Role in Women’s Suffrage
We marched alongside the League of Women Voters and other partners in celebration of Juneteenth and in remembrance of the 1914 Pittsburgh Women’s Suffrage Parade. Organized with the formal collaboration of Pittsburgh’s most prominent Black women suffragists like Daisy Lampkin, Grace Lowndes, and the Writt sisters, the Parade was the only fully integrated suffrage march in the history of the United States.

A Summer of Nature, Creativity, and STEM Learning
During the early weeks of Summer Camp, campers enjoyed activities like decorating t-shirts, making bracelets for Juneteenth, writing their own campfire song, and using 3D printing pens to create art. Campers also visited Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve, where they learned about nature by making binoculars to spot wildlife, using magnifying glasses to identify insects and plants, going on a nature walk, and completing a nature scavenger hunt. Back at our Homewood Education Center, campers continued their focus on nature by learning how to identify the footprints of animals. We’re excited to continue this summer of learning and fun! 2026 Summer Camp was generously supported by The Grable Foundation and United Way of Southwestern PA.
Exploring Pathways to Opportunity
Part of Opportunity Pathways Programs, PATHmakers helps 5th-12th grade students explore post-secondary education and income-sustaining career pathways. High School PATHmakers recently visited Westminster College for an admissions talk, campus tour, and lunch in the dining hall. In July, they will head to Covestro to learn more about potential career paths.
